How Family Dentistry Differs
Family dentistry is designed to provide comprehensive oral care for patients of all ages, from young children to seniors. Unlike specialty dentistry, which focuses on a specific smile need, family dentistry offers a broad range of preventive, diagnostic, and restorative services tailored to meet the unique needs of each family member throughout their lifetime.
By understanding the full context of your family’s oral health, we can coordinate care effectively, ensuring smoother appointments, better communication, and consistent results over time. Whether it’s your child’s first dental visit or managing the complex needs of an aging parent, family dentistry adapts to your lifestyle and keeps everyone smiling confidently.
What Sets Us Apart
What sets family dentistry apart is the continuity of care, having one trusted dental team familiar with your family’s dental history, preferences, and health goals. This continuity fosters a comfortable, judgment-free environment where every patient, whether a toddler or grandparent, receives personalized attention and education.
While we focus primarily on adult dentistry and preventive care for younger patients, our family dentistry approach emphasizes early intervention for children with services like gentle checkups starting as early as 6 months, fluoride treatments, and sealants to build strong foundations.
For adults and older family members, we offer comprehensive services from routine cleanings to advanced restorative treatments.

Tooth Protection for the Whole Family
Managing your family’s busy schedule can sometimes become a difficult challenge. Our dental office, located in Davis County, makes it easy for patients and parents to make oral care a priority. Here are some of the perks that make Bahr Dental parent and child-friendly.
Receive Treatment Together
Many families like to be able to see the same dentist, and often on the same day. Dr. Bahr and his staff are committed to accommodating families and their busy schedules to make your visit as convenient as possible.
Our clinic regularly has openings to see up to 7 patients at once, so you can get your whole family seen together. This greatly reduces your time on the phone and time in the car, scheduling and arranging different appointments for everyone.
Ideal Location
Our clinic is located a five-minute drive from Bountiful Elementary School, making it an easy commute for your family when you need it. Children love our kid area and are welcome to play or watch a movie while waiting for their family to be finished with their treatment.

When Should My Child See a Dentist?
Our office recommends that children begin seeing a dentist as soon as teeth appear in their mouth, or at least by the age of one.
Although we probably won’t take X-rays until the age of three or four, little children (and parents) need to be educated on proper oral hygiene. Moreover, children need to have a positive first visit to the dentist, and our team will do all we can to make your child’s first visit a positive one.
The younger you bring your children to the dentist, the more they will feel comfortable with the routine and overcome dental anxiety before it sets in.
Bahr Dental’s Dental Damage Plan
Bahr Dental maintains a safety plan with all of our regular patients to fight back against plaque and gum infection. We recommend scheduling 2 dental visits a year to give our dentists time to spot significant dental plaque before it’s too late.
Our membership plan makes general dentistry care easy and convenient, all while saving you money on visits and restorative dentistry placements
If you have any questions about our general dentistry options, feel free to give our office a call! We are happy to answer any questions you may have.
Benefits of Family Dentistry
Choosing a dental home for your family is about more than just convenience; it’s about finding a trusted partner in your family’s lifelong health.
Family dentistry is designed to offer comprehensive care for patients of all ages, making it easier to build consistent habits, track developmental milestones, and ensure everyone from kids to grandparents feels comfortable and cared for.
Whether you’re booking a child’s first cleaning or managing ongoing care for yourself, a family dentist can provide the continuity and personalized attention your household needs.
One Office for the Whole Family
Family dentists are trained to treat patients of all ages from toddlers to seniors. This means parents, kids, and even grandparents can all be seen under one roof, simplifying scheduling and reducing the need for multiple providers.
Pediatric and Adult Care in One Place
Family dentists are experienced in both pediatric and general dental care. This allows them to monitor your child’s oral development over time while also addressing adult concerns like crowns, periodontal therapy, and cosmetic dentistry.
Long-Term Patient Relationships
Family dentists often care for patients from childhood through adulthood, building strong relationships based on trust and familiarity. This continuity makes it easier to track changes, catch early signs of problems, combat dental anxiety, and provide personalized care.
Easier Appointment Coordination
Our family dental practice offers group appointments or back-to-back scheduling, making it easier for busy families to get the care they need without juggling multiple dates and times.
Preventive Education for All Ages
From teaching kids how to brush properly to guiding teens through braces and adults through gum care, family dentists provide age-appropriate education that adapts as your needs evolve.
Patient Reviews
We know choosing a dental provider for your family is an important decision. Our patients often tell us they appreciate our caring, attentive approach and the seamless experience we provide for all ages.
From comforting nervous children to delivering skilled restorative care for adults, our team creates a supportive atmosphere where every patient feels respected and valued. Below are some of their stories of how we helped them achieve healthier, happier smiles.
Family vs. General Dentistry
While general dentists provide excellent care for adults, they may not be equipped or comfortable treating younger children or treating the whole family in one setting.
Limited Experience with Children
General dentists typically focus on adult dental concerns and may not have the gentle approach or behavior management training that pediatric or family dentists use with children.
Multiple Providers = More Complication
If your general dentist doesn’t see young children or teens, you’ll need to seek a separate pediatric specialist, which can lead to fragmented care and extra travel, paperwork, and records management.
Gaps in Developmental Tracking
Family dentists can track dental development across all stages of life, which helps catch issues like misalignment, enamel defects, or bite problems early. A general dentist might miss these if they’re only seeing your child sporadically or not at all.
Less Child-Friendly Environment
Many general dentistry offices aren’t designed with kids in mind. Family practices often create a welcoming environment for young patients with fun décor, child-sized equipment, and a more relaxed, family-oriented vibe. Our office has a small play area in the waiting room to help kids have fun and feel comfortable at our office!
Missed Opportunities for Preventive Habits
Children who see a family dentist regularly tend to be more comfortable with dental visits and develop good oral habits early. General practices that don’t cater to kids may unintentionally reinforce dental anxiety or delay important preventive care.

Why It Matters for Kids
One of the most powerful ways family dentistry helps ease dental anxiety, especially in young children, is through familiarity and shared experiences. When kids visit the dentist with their parents or older siblings, they have the chance to observe positive behavior in a setting that might otherwise feel intimidating.
Watching a brother or sister sit calmly in the chair, chat with the dental team, or even get a simple cleaning can help reduce fear by showing that the experience is safe and manageable.
By seeing the same friendly faces each visit and knowing that their whole family is in good hands, anxious patients often feel more relaxed and supported from the moment they walk in the door.
